About Parent Penny

Parent Penny exists to help parents make informed financial decisions through practical, easy-to-understand educational content. Simple money decisions for stronger families.

Why this site exists

Family money decisions rarely arrive at a convenient time. A childcare bill changes, a car breaks down, a school trip appears on a form in a backpack. Most financial content either assumes you have hours to research or tries to sell you something urgent.

We publish the opposite: calm, specific guides that explain the choice in front of you, show the numbers involved, and stop there. Every guide is written to be useful to a parent reading it on their phone at 9pm.

Founder

Jenn Leach — Founder & Editor. Jenn is a parent of two and the founder of Parent Penny. She writes about household budgeting, saving and family money habits, and has spent a decade turning confusing financial topics into steps families can actually follow.

Guides are written and reviewed by our small editorial team, including Marcus Reed (contributing writer, debt & credit) and Dana Okafor (contributing writer, saving & planning).

Editorial standards

  • Every guide is written to answer one clear question a parent has asked.
  • We name the trade-offs, not just the upside, of any strategy we describe.
  • Partnerships never determine our recommendations, and affiliate content is labeled.
  • We correct errors openly and note the date each guide was last updated.

Our full standards live on the Editorial Policy page.

How content is researched

We start from primary sources: government and regulator publications, official program rules, and published data. Where a figure varies by state, plan or provider, we say so instead of quoting one number as universal. Each guide lists its sources at the bottom, and we re-check guides that cover rules which change from year to year.

How this website makes money

Keeping the site free costs money, so we earn revenue in a few clearly labeled ways: display advertising, affiliate commissions when a reader opens an account or buys a product through a partner link, occasional sponsored content marked as sponsored, and our email newsletter. We never accept payment for a positive review or a specific ranking. See our Affiliate Disclosure for details.
